Running decks for treadmills
The running deck is the sturdy board beneath a treadmill’s moving running belt. A damaged or heavily worn deck can cause extra friction, noise and belt wear. Here you can find replacement running decks for specific brands and models. Always check your treadmill’s exact model designation before ordering.
What is a running deck?
The running deck, also called a treadmill deck, sits directly beneath the belt on which you walk or run. It supports the user and forms the surface over which the running belt moves. Together with the belt, rollers and cushioning system, the deck plays an important role in how smoothly the treadmill feels.
What is the difference between a running deck and a running belt?
The running deck is the fixed board within the treadmill frame. The running belt is the flexible, motor-driven belt that moves around the front and rear rollers. During training, the inside of the belt slides over the top surface of the deck.
When should you replace a running deck?
Replacement may be needed if there are cracks, breaks, warping, separating layers or deep wear marks on the surface. A scraping sound, an unevenly moving belt or increasing friction may also indicate wear. In that case, also check the belt, lubrication, tension and alignment.
Are running decks universal?
No, a running deck is generally designed for a specific treadmill brand and model. Its length, width, thickness, shape and mounting hole positions must match the frame. A board with approximately the same outside dimensions is therefore not automatically suitable.
How do you find the right running deck?
Find the brand and full model designation on the treadmill’s rating plate. Compare these details with the running deck’s product name and description. If the same model has several versions, also check the serial number, year of manufacture or part number where this information is available.
Check the running belt too
A worn or excessively tight running belt can damage a new deck again. Inspect the inside of the belt for rough areas, fraying and wear, and check that it still moves smoothly. Only use lubricant when and in the way specified by the treadmill manufacturer.
Replacing a running deck safely
Unplug the treadmill from the mains before starting work. Replacement generally requires loosening or removing the running belt and several frame components. Install the new deck correctly, realign the belt and carefully adjust its tension. If in doubt, have the repair carried out by an experienced technician.
