Motors and carbon brushes for treadmills
Is your treadmill’s drive or incline no longer working correctly? Here you can find replacement drive motors, incline motors and carbon brushes for a range of brands and models. Have the fault carefully investigated first and check the machine model, part number, and electrical and mechanical specifications before ordering.
Which motors are used in a treadmill?
An electric treadmill generally contains a drive motor that moves the running belt. Models with electronically adjustable incline also have a separate incline motor. These motors serve different functions and are not interchangeable.
What does the drive motor do?
The drive motor turns the front roller via a drive belt, moving the running belt. Loss of speed, jerky movement, unusual noises or a motor that will not start may indicate a problem. However, these symptoms may also be caused by the mainboard, wiring, drive belt or excessive friction between the running belt and deck.
What does an incline motor do?
The incline motor adjusts the position of the treadmill frame to increase or decrease the incline. If this function stops working, the cause may lie in the motor, but also in a sensor, cable connection, switch or control board. Some treadmills need recalibration after replacement, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
When should you replace carbon brushes?
Carbon brushes make electrical contact with the rotating part of certain direct current motors. They wear during use and, when heavily worn, may cause loss of power, interruptions or excessive sparking. Not every motor uses the same brushes; dimensions, shape and connection must match exactly.
How do you find the right treadmill motor?
Check the treadmill’s brand, full model designation and, if possible, serial number. Also compare the part number and motor label details, such as voltage, power and rotational speed. Dimensions, mounting points, direction of rotation, shaft and electrical connections must also be suitable.
Are treadmill motors universal?
No, a motor with similar power is not automatically interchangeable. Electrical control and mechanical mounting may differ between machines. For safe, reliable operation, you need a motor that is suitable for the model concerned and works with the existing drive board.
Have a diagnosis carried out first
An overloaded motor may result from a worn running belt, damaged deck, incorrect belt tension or inadequate maintenance. If only the motor is replaced without addressing the underlying cause, the new component may become overloaded again. Check the entire drive system.
Replacing and connecting safely
Disconnect the treadmill completely from the mains before opening the motor cover. The machine may contain components that retain electrical voltage after switching off. Preferably have motor diagnosis, connection and adjustment carried out by a qualified technician.
