Brake pads for indoor cycles
An indoor cycle’s brake pad presses against the flywheel to control training resistance. Regular use can wear this friction pad and make resistance less consistent. Here you can find replacement brake pads for a range of brands and models. Always check the machine model, dimensions and mounting details before ordering.
What does an indoor cycle’s brake pad do?
On an indoor cycle with a mechanical resistance system, the resistance knob presses the brake pad against the flywheel. The greater the pressure, the harder it is to pedal. On many models, the same system is also used to bring the flywheel to a stop quickly.
Does every indoor cycle have a brake pad?
No, only machines with a friction system use a brake pad that directly contacts the flywheel. Indoor cycles with magnetic resistance control the load using magnets and do not need a traditional friction brake pad for this function. Check which resistance system your machine uses first.
When should you replace a brake pad?
A worn brake pad may cause insufficient or uneven resistance, scraping noises or a resistance knob that needs progressively more tightening. Also inspect the component for fraying, cracks, hardening or uneven wear. Do not continue training if the flywheel can no longer be reliably braked.
How do you find the right brake pad?
Identify the indoor cycle’s brand and full model designation and compare them with the product description. Also check the length, width, thickness, shape and mounting method of the existing pad. A similar appearance does not automatically mean that the component fits.
Are brake pads universal?
Most brake pads are designed for a specific machine or product range. The material, shape and position relative to the flywheel must match the resistance system. Where possible, choose a pad explicitly listed as suitable for your model.
Check the resistance system too
Uneven resistance is not always caused solely by the brake pad. Also check the resistance knob, threaded rod, holder and any cable connections. The pad must be aligned and make even contact with the flywheel, then release sufficiently when resistance is reduced.
Caring for a friction brake pad
Keep the flywheel and braking mechanism free of dirt and check the pad regularly for wear. Only use a cleaning product or lubricant when the manufacturer specifies it for the material concerned. An unsuitable product can change resistance, cause noise or damage the braking surface.
Installing a new brake pad
Reduce the resistance fully and make sure the flywheel is stationary before removing the component. Install the new pad in the same position and check that it presses evenly against the flywheel. Test the resistance and stop function gently before using the indoor cycle intensively again.
